I'm no fan of Russia right now, but I don't think Russia has a 'strangle hold' on spaceflight. They just chanced upon the novel idea of "design a reliable system that works, and keep making it".

Why do you narrate in English and then in foreign language for volume, speed and distances? It makes my viewing a WASTE of time. I'm NOT going to sit here and convert any language to English or convert speed and distance to feet and miles per hour because it is the same trouble.

Great documentary, thanks for posting. The only small nits, Apollo 11 Eagle landed late afternoon ET in North America and the moon walk was rushed to take place at 9:30 pm ET. It was not 3:30 a.m. anywhere in N America. Also, US was way behind Sputnik in 1957! Showing the Vanguard failure before Explorer 1 would have helped emphasize how far behind America was - and how amazing it was to see the US catch up and eventually pass the Soviets!

Was the Spitfire the best fighter of WW2? I don't know. I don't think any fighter can really claim to be the best. They each had weaknesses and strengths, but like the ME109, it was one of the very best, being a world class fighter on the first day of the war and a world class fighter on the last day of the war. No other fighters can make such a claim. It was designed (an excelled) as a short range interceptor, but was capable of immense development, it helped hold the line for the allies in the Battle of Britain and was the RAF's primary fighter throughout the war. We were lucky we had it. The single engined low wing monoplane fighter only lasted a decade and a lot of development took place during that time. Even then, it could still outclimb and out turn most of it's later contemporaries, P51 and Tempest included. It is amazing that one of the very first of the breed was able to stand toe to toe with much later designs. The Spitfire fully deserves it's place in history.
